My graduation party

Past Saturday we definately rocked the place! It had been in my mind for quite a long time that after graduation we would celebrate - and boy, this is what we did! It is a pity that some of you could not come, due to health or distance problems or simple time issues - finding a date that really fits everybody is definately impossible. But I am happy that so many of my dear friends could make it and join me on this very special occation. You were all in such good mood, absolutely everybody was ready for partying, and you really, really made my day! (And evening. And night.)

Since there was so much going on somehow we actually just have more or less snapshots of Saturday, not everybody appears on the photos, and some pics came out a blur so I cannot use them. But still here is some impression of what turned out to be a brilliant and fun-filled evening!

At the beginning Stefan adressed the audience, and I got a wonderful present presented by Julia.

There was a guest from England and many more presents from everybody who came.

We had lots of good food - this picture showing how I had the buffet in mind originally, not realizing in the first place that the sideboard was much, much to small for everything that would come later. Cordon Bleue, Chicken Drumsticks, Chili con carne.... And last not least so many thanks to Susi Bayer for her smashing Lasagna, the wonderful cakes from Julia and Juliane (gee, I did not know you would rob a bakery and bring it all along when you announced you would bring "a cake") and Zinsi´s potatoe salad!

Julia and Juliane dragged out of the kitchen. They fully occupied the kitchen after realizing that I was of no use because I was here and there and did not have a chance to work the stove. Without them I think we would still be waiting for the warm dishes. You were wonderful, my two little hobbits! (And yes, Julia, we discussed that: There must be a hobbit somewhere among your ancestors!)

And what did the kiddos do? Dessa was a bit overwhelmed because there were so many people to charm and so much food for prospective eating, and Indy was a little bit reluctant and well-mannered as always, but it did not stop him from pestering people for snacks. To be well-mannered again after pestering.

The atmosphere was brilliant - even though some of my cherished guests had to wait in the freezing night for a while after they had arrived because the door-bell was stuck, and inside we did not hear the frantic shouting outside. Really, really sorry about that! I hope food and drinks made up for it later!

This was the other part of the buffet, that definately did not look as organized as I had had it in mind (when I had thought that I could do everything myself), but there simply was no other place to put things anymore. After all, everybody had enought to eat (and we are going to live off the left-overs for another zillion years).

Gobble, gobble, gobble. It was like on my wedding: I was so busy chatting with friends that eating was a task that always had to be postponed! So I had dinner when the others had dessert - thanks for bearing with me!

And then came Karaoke! When renting the equipment on the net I thought I had bought something that I know from Japan, it is small and you can carry it around like a sound-machine. But what we got was THIS.

Professional equipment that blew off the roof of our house, the bass-box alone weighted more than 40 kilo! Jeez!!!! It was great, thousands of songs and Stefan putting in lots of work as the D.J. We had so much fun with it, I am quite sure that we will do this again! Even friends who are usually very composed (or would never ever sing in public I thought) rocked the place! The last of the singers stopped at 2 a.m., but simply because her voice was hoarse and she was close to falling asleep right in front of the screen.

Some of the artists....

.... and some who refused (but sang later). Karaoke gets all of you one day! Even the ones who quietly crept upstairs after a while because they were frightened they would end up with the mike sooner or later!

And here some of the presents I got. I was absolutely overwhelmed....

Friends, it was wonderful, smashing, fun-filled, super-duper!! I thank you so much for coming and for all your affection and kindness! It definately was a night to remember and you made it very, very special for me! I love you all!

Beautiful Winter 2013

Actually we went to Styria businesswise/workwise. But coming out of the cold, foggy Vienna area with extreme snow we were surprised to hit a beautiful area full of sunshine, blue skies and just the right amount of the white stuff.

Even though we did not have a lot of time we took some of it to enjoy the sunshine. And I want to share a few photos with you to show you how marvellous Winter can be like!

We saw dozens of balloons in the air, but most of them were too small to come out on the photo in good size, so on this photo there is just one. They where gliding in complete silence across the sky...

And of course there was time for some good dog fun too!

Incredible that just some 300 kms away it was still snowing and foggy.

Oh happy day....

Copenhagen - last part but not least

Here we are now, after Christmas and New Years, with the last bit of our journey to Copenhagen.

If you have wondered where the little Mermaid is: Voilá, here you find her, out in the harbour of Copenhagen. A little damsel she is, and even if she is so small she is one of the most well-known sights of Denmark!

She is quite hard to reach, especially after a couple of days of walking, walking. There is no public transport going there, just tourist busses, so it means a LOT of walking from the Castle of Amalienborg. And there she is, looking so small, surrounded by many, many tourists usually....

The journey up there is lovely. I recommend to walk up from Amalienborg, because the little Mermaid is hard to miss from there.

But after a couple of days in Denmark your feet will definately hurt. Never mind, have a look at the Castle of Amalienborg! It is the prime residence of the Denish Royal family, with a statue of King Frederik V., who was the initiator of the Amalienborg ensemble, in the middle. .I confess I have seen a better change of guards in Stockholm, but I have been told that there are various kinds of change of guard: When the Queen is at home, when the crown prince or crown princess are there or when any of the Royal family is available. I guess when we were there, they were all out because it was so boring.

The Marble Dome is one of the most expensive buildings of Copenhagen. It took them many years to build, and actually it is quite new, but still it fits into the Amalienborg setting beautifully.

Then we went over to Christianshavn to see the Frelskers Kirke (Erlöserkirche)...

It is recommended to just walk up there if you are completely free of giddyness. Well, I am not. So Stefan and I have the agreement that he moves up whereever and I am not pissed off because I hang out alone on the ground. I just expect good photos of his great challenge....

No way I would be able to walk up there! Obviously while you walk up within the tower everything is fine. But then you are outside at the top, with a banister that is about hip high and the steps getting tighter and tighter.... Gee, never ever.....

But what a gorgeous view!! Sometimes I am really envious that I cannot do things like this!!

You even see the Oeresund bridge from there, the bridge that takes you from Denmark to Sweden. I recommend it to be a nice ride, but if you have been to Miami and going down to Key West - forget it. Schatzi, thank you for walking up there!!!! The view is beautiful!!!

Afterwards we went to the Stroget again, to have something to eat and enjoy the Chrismassy atmosphere.

And believe it or not: Here we found a column of H.C. Andersen, one of the leaders of my thesis. Thank you, H.C., you inspired me very much!

The rest of the evening we spent at the Skybar of our hotel. It was a brilliant first-time in Denmark, we so hope to come again!

New Year´s Eve 2012/2013

This New Year´s Eve we did not escape to Switzerland, this year we stood our ground at home. We usually don´t go out on the 31st of December, we don´t go to parties or to restaurants, and the "Silvesterpfad" in downtown Vienna is also a no-go. To many weirdos out there who throw fireworks or empty bottles into the crowds.

I guess you can say we refuse to celebrate when everybody else is celebrating. And by doing so we usually have a Raclette or a Fondue, drink champagne and organize a little firework at midnight. (Glad to have founded a tradition in Finnland as well! When we went there for New Year´s Eve a couple of years ago Stefan insisted on a firework at midnight. Everybody went "oh nooo" and "we don´t want that" - and today they organize their own firework at the Summer house, even when we are not there. He, he.)

Eating, chatting and watching TV amused us until midnight, then it was time for some rock´n´roll outside.

And afterwards some more champagne, chatting and eating all the things you need to eat to have lots and lots of luck in the New Year.

Hope you all had a great one too! HAPPY 2013!!
